#10 Impressions de France – located in Epcot’s World Showcase, this film is the only attraction in the France pavilion (although we’ve heard rumor a “Ratatouille” attraction may join this film in another area of France). This film has been unique to France since Epcot’s opening in 1982. The eighteen minute movie takes its viewers across some of the most beautiful and historic locations in France. We still love to stop in on this attraction every year.
#9 O’ Canada – although we absolutely adored the original attraction’s film that was replaced in 2007, we like this film equally as well. Narrated by Martin Short, this fourteen minute film displays breathtaking footage of Canada’s most spectacular sights. It also contains a little bit of my favorite part of the first film by including my favorite song (in a lesser version) “You’re a Lifetime Journey.”
#8 Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable – this attraction is known for its environmentally friendly message and it is located in Epcot’s Future World Land pavilion. The film is fourteen minutes long and take guests on a journey into how man has caused harm to the earth through deforestation and pollution. Timon and Pumbaa from the Lion King explain that while man has done some great things on earth they have also helped to create harm. We really like the message of this attraction’s film and how easily it helps explain its purpose to all who watch it.
#7 Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival – located in Epcot’s Future World Imagination pavilion, this 3-D montage of Pixar short films features Get a Horse, For the Birds, and La Luna. The attraction’s films last a total of minutes, but we would love it if more Pixar shorts were featured. It’s a great way to rest, beat the heat, and most of all enjoy the films. Personally, our favorite is Get a Horse! However, they all three leave the audience smiling.
#6 Star Tours – The Adventures Continue – this attraction is located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and debuted in 2011 as a follow-up to the original attraction simply known as Star Tours. The four and one-half minute simulator attraction features a 3-D film which takes guests on a trip across the galaxy to return a rebel spy. The great thing about this film as compared to the first Star Tours film is the fact that it changes each time you ride it and you get a little piece of each Star Wars film on each ride.
#5 Muppet Vision 3-D – as one of our favorite movie-related attractions, guests can watch this 3-D favorite at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Although its name implies it is three-dimensional, this fifteen minute attraction is actually 4-D. The film features all of Jim Henson’s beloved Muppet characters, but also throws in bubbles, a flower that squirts real water, and personal appearances by Sweetums, Bean Bunny, and the “two old men.”
#4 It’s Tough to be a Bug! – this hilarious 3-D, animated nine-minute film, features all of your favorite bugs including lady bugs, butterflies, dung beetles, bees, and many more. We don’t even mind the occasional surprise (complete darkness, buzzing all around, being poked in the back, or feeling like something is crawling under your seat). What’s even better is the location – inside the Animal Kingdom’s Tree of Life.
#3 Mickey’s PhilharMagic – this 3-D film is located in the Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland. Although the film is deemed 3-D, it is actually 4-D because of the extended amount of special effects associated with this twelve minute movie attraction. Guests can smell the scent of apple pie as they sing along to “Be Our Guest”. They are sprayed with water by one of Fantasia’s broomsticks, and they follow clips from some of the very best of Disney’s animation including The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin, and Peter Pan. To make this attraction even more appealing is the 150 foot wide screen. We absolutely love this attraction and NEVER miss it!
#2 Avatar Flight of Passage – we were fortunate enough to get an Annual Passholder’s preview in May for Animal Kingdom’s newest attraction located in the newly opened Pandora. Our wait time was ten minutes at the most (don’t be jealous), and it was well worth the wait. Frankly, we weren’t sure what to make of all the hooplah surrounding this ride. Once we rode it, we figured out why there has been such publicity surrounding this attraction. The four minute film takes guests on a spectacular 3-D ride on a banshee through the beautiful sights of Pandora. The sights, smells, effects (breathing banshee, mist of water, wind) are hard to beat! Honestly, it was difficult to rate this as our number two pick. If we had been able to ride this more than once, I’m sure it would have tied our number one pick! If you can get a fastpass or don’t mind waiting, you won’t regret it!
#1 Soarin – this still remains our number one movie attraction at Walt Disney World. Located in Epcot’s Future World Land pavilion, Soarin has it all! The sights, the smells, the music……they can’t be beat! We loved the first version of Soarin and we were so nervous about how we would feel about replacing the California scenery with locations around the globe. We couldn’t be more pleased with the attraction’s new film. As crazy as it may seem, our favorite sight and smell is the dirt being tossed around by an elephant on the African Savannah! We also love the smell of roses at the Taj Mahal and the beautiful lights of the Eiffel Tower. For these reasons, Soarin is our number one movie attraction at WDW and one we “never” miss when we visit Epcot!
